Embalming

Modern embalming ensures hygienic preservation of deceased for the duration of the funeral period and some funeral directors consider it necessary for this very reason. 

There is added necessity if viewing of the deceased is to take place because embalming ensures a more natural appearance and removes any health hazards. 

If the deceased is to be transported any distance then the embalming process becomes essential.
